Events

In the 2025/26 academic year we are working with two types of meetings. The Working Group Seminar is primarily geared towards students, the Open Faculty Clubs are more formal presentations that are open to the public.

Open Faculty Clubs: Next public meeting (open to all)

Open Faculty Clubs: everyone welcome!

Two or three times each semester Cluster Members and their affiliates will present from their own research as it relates to the Cluster Theme of “Inclusive Linguistic Standards” and/or “Inclusive Language Use”.

The Open Faculty Club meetings are open to all, including community members, in an effort to explore options of how inclusivity might work linguistically in present-day contexts.

Thu, 20 November 2025, 6-8 pm
Open Faculty Club #1: How inclusive can Standard Canadian English be?
Panel discussion with
John Chew (editor of the Canadian English Dictionary)
Harrison Mooney (author & journalist)

Location: UBC campus, Vancouver, Buchanan Tower, Room 323 (Department of English Language & Literatures).
